May to September: Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday and Holiday 11.15 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There is no general entrance fee. But we are kindly asking for a donation of 1,50 EUR per person. The
running and maintenance costs - still without the extensive restoration work - are about several 100.000 EUR a year. Your donation will help us to keep St. Mary’s church open and running.
Groups with guides are asked to pay a fee of EUR 1,- per person. This amount will be collected by
their guides prior to entering the church or it is already part of the visitor’s package.
Our church is no museum with guaranteed accessibility. For groups, it is helpful to ask in advance, if
there are not any events taking place in the church, making visiting impossible or restricted.
During prayer and worship times, no visiting is possible. Service times are explained here>>.
From Mai to October, guided tours are take place daily at 11 a.m.
Tower, Bells, Vaulting:
Regular visits to the vaulting and the bells of one hour length take place every Monday and Wednesday (May-Oct), 11 a.m,
at a cost of EUR 5,- p.p.
A one-hour tour up on our tower with visits of the vaulting, the bells and the organ can be arranged
by request on advance, against free donations. Contact the churchwardens at their box in the church or at (+49/381) 453325.
Church tours and tower tours are normally held in German language only!
The organ can be visited at every noon prayer.
(Noon prayers take place from May to mid-October, Monday to Saturday, 12 a.m. To visit the organ, be at
the baroque gate in the north west corner of the nave, where a sign is posted. After the Noon Prayer (ca. 10 Minutes, with some organ music), there is some time for explanation and investigation of the
instrument. This is free, a donation or a compact disc purchase would be welcome to help us keeping the 5700-pipe instrument maintained and running. Please note that the Noon Prayer Organ Visits may be
cancelled for special reasons without further notice.)
Special organ concerts or organ presentations (also in English language) for groups can be arranged. Please contact the Director of Music here>>)
Taking photographs and recording video is allowed for private use.
To preserve our paintings, the use of the camera flashlights is forbidden!
Taking photographs and recording video for commercial or public use MUST BE APPROVED by the Lutheran City Parish of Rostock (Contact>>).
Accessibility for the Disabled; Restrooms:
Wheelchairs etc. can access the church via the integrated ramp of the main entrance. The churchwardens will give further help.
The church does not have any public toilets/restrooms. Only during services or concerts, one toilet will be open.
The church does not have any heating. It may cool down approximately to exterior temperature.
Some of the pews have a heating, which will be provided during cooler seasons for events and services. Please ask the churchwardens to help you finding those seats. Our winter church (which is
the chapel in the tower basement) is heated. There we worship from 1st Advent until Long Friday, except on Christmas Eve.
